I loved working on this assignment. Planning out my semester worth of readings was great fun. I am very excited for the Native American units as that is very relevant to the people and the culture of Oklahoma. I am slo interested in the African unit as i recently took an African music class and found that fascinating.
Oh, I am glad you are interested in the Africa materials, Andy: that is my own current project... Brer Rabbit and the connection of the Brer Rabbit stories to Africa! I just got going on that in December, and I can't wait until summer when I will get a chance to read African folktales all summer long! Here's my Brer Rabbit project so far: Brer Rabbit: Tales of a Trickster. What is even more cool is that there are also Native American trickster stories mixed in with the stories from Africa, especially Cherokee stories along with Creek, Choctaw, etc., the peoples of the southeastern U.S. ... from before the Trail of Tears.
