Reading Notes: The Story of the Baker and the Grateful Fish Part B

Bibliography: The Story of the Baker and the Grateful Fish

In this story, there is a baker that throws his excess bread into the river for the fish to eat. One day, a merchant came offering a bunch of money. There was no work to be done for 40 days, but on this last day the baker had to go with him. They went and killed and skinned a cow. The merchant told the baker to get inside the skin. The merchant then tied it up and  bird carried him to the top of a mountain. The birds beak tore a hole that the baker was able to get out of. The merchant told him to throw down the jewels. He did, but the merchant basically left him for dead. As a result, the baker decided to jump into the river. The fish, recognizing him as the man who gave them bread, created a raft and carried him back to shore. Later, the merchant returned to repeat his trick. The baker was not recognized and offered to go. This time, he tricked the merchant into getting in the skins and repeated his trick. This is a bit of a "taste of your own medicine" type story in which the person who is trying to exploit others loses in the end. I could create a similar themed story with different characters, perhaps even in an OU setting.
